Window Tint

One day, my wife asked me if I thought it was time to shop for a new sofa.  After a long discussion (and visiting a couple furniture stores) we decided to clean our existing sofa and tint nearby windows to eliminate UV fading.  But somehow the task to find a professional window tinting company became my chore.

I typed some key words into Google.com and came across a small company with a big presence on OrlandoWindowTint.com.  I sent an email to them and a couple days later, Mr. Matthew Fisher called me on the phone.

My first concern was determining what I was really getting in to.  I never sought a company to do window tinting before and I wanted to be sure that the service was affordable and I was not about to work with a shady company.  I asked Matt for a ball park price to tint a sliding glass door.  He was reluctant to give a price but he was very professional on the way he handled it.  The price would depend on several factors including the type of tint we needed and the specific size of our sliding glass doors.

So I went about it a different way.  I asked Matt if he had ever tinted sliding glass doors before.  He said that he had.  I asked him what was the most he ever charged for such a job.  I explained that I didn't want to pursue the project if were talking many hundreds of dollars.  Matt cautiously suggested to expect a price between $200 and $300.  We made an appointment.

Matt was prompt to the scheduled appointment and arrived with the tools he needed to convince me he knew his business.  He explained the various grades and benefits of tints.  I was amazed at how many options there were.  Matt showed a sample of a tint that blocked UV but hardly looked like a tint at all.  When I asked about possible energy savings, he recommended a slightly darker tint and I was sold.

Impressed with his presentation, I asked Matt if he also tints vehicle windows.  He said "yes" and showed me the work he had done on his own car.  He said that the car had been done several years ago, yet every window looked to me to still be factory perfect.

I was interested in tinting the front two windows of my truck.  When I purchased the truck, the rear two windows and the rear window were all nicely tinted, but there were several reasons I hoped tinting the front windows would be an affordable option.

Matt did give me an attractive price. . . so much so that my wife asked me to get a quote to also do all of her Camry windows.

Matt arrived on time for the install.  He worked on the sliding doors first.  He carefully removed the valance and vertical drapes.  He prepped the window and installed the tint.  He advised us not to use abrasive cleaners or chemicals that include alcohol.  The work looked perfect to us, then he moved on to my wife's Camry.  Last, he did the front driver and passenger windows of my truck.

Matt first cut both tints on the the outside of one of the window.  He explained that the air vents on the window make the work a bit more difficult, but he still made the work look easy.

After the tints were cut, Matt carefully positioned them on the inside of the window.  He was careful to line up edges and squeegee air and water out.

Matt explained that, unlike windows in the home, automotive glass is curved.  To make certain the tint applies properly, Matt has to use adequate heat to shrink the tint into position.  Matt explained how inexperienced installers can apply either not enough or too much heat and ruin the installation.  He said that lower grades of tint can easily melt or split.

Doing all the side windows and the rear window of my wife's Camry took about 1.5 hours.  Matt explained that many shops push employees to not take more than an hour to install tint on all windows or a standard automobile.  He says he understands the motivation for profit, but suggested that instead of attracting customers with the absolute lowest price, he favors attracting customers with the absolute best work and materials.  He still competes with price, but he refuses to get into situations where the only way to make money is skimp on the output.

Matt endorses LLumar tint films.  His installation included an impressive Limited Manufacturer's Warranty against cracking, peeling or demetalizing for "as long as the original purchaser retains ownership of the vehicle".

Matt is a sole proprietor of his business and has an on call crew for large jobs when he needs them.  He said he has installed tint on over 7,000 vehicles and while he doesn't claim to never make a mistake, he does claim to have corrected all of them promptly.  I was thrilled with the final work on my truck and my wife agrees her car even looks like a more expensive vehicle with the windows tinted.

Matt's success has recently enabled him to expand into new offices in Casselberry.  He can be reached by dialing 407-620-4189 or be emailing matt@orlandowindowtint.com.
