There are three
primary ways to customize Taillights on a truck with after-market
products. One is to completely switch out the taillights. Some
truck owners like a European look that brand new Taillights might offer.
Other styles might actually hide the headlights until the bulbs behind the
dark or reflective lenses are illuminated.
Another way to change the look of Taillights are Taillight Covers.
Covers are typically available in chrome or a black material that can be
painted the same color of the truck. They are affixed to the
Taillights with strong weather-resistant 3M tape. Taillight Covers
do not so much to protect the Taillights as they do to change the look of
the factory design of the original Taillights.

A third way is a mod called Taillight Guards that add flair to the look of
the truck without actually changing the Taillights. They are also a
popular favorite of off-roaders who know they may be kicking up rocks and
debris as they sport about the wilderness.

I
purchased my Taillight Guards from an
eBay
Seller ($99 for the pair including shipping). They arrived
in a short time and they were securely packaged for the shipment to
my home.
The pair
were extremely easy to install. Each Taillight is removed,
then immediately reaffixed with the Taillight Guard brackets in
place. The entire process could not have taken more than
twenty minutes or so. |

Complete
Taillight replacements can cost hundreds of dollars.
Taillight Covers can actually cover a great deal of the
illumination and I personally question whether they are 100%
as safe as the stock lights before being covered up.
On
the other hand, the Taillight Guards do not cost a great deal,
are easy to install and help bounce the light of the
Taillights around instead of completely blocking portions of
the illumination. I like the appearance to the Taillight
Guards as a compliment to the front Westin Bull Bar. It
reinforces the rugged look of the truck and can one day be
removed if I ever decide to restore the original stock look. |
