Billet Antenna

The stock antenna (as shown at left) on a Tacoma is certainly functional, but it offers no visual appeal.  To the rescue are countless numbers of alternative designs from after-market companies.  In fact, the antenna is one of the easiest mods to make on a vehicle, but choosing one that looks good and still offers functionality can be difficult.

I spent some time looking into the possibility of installing a power antenna.  I like the idea of having the antenna raised only when it is needed and hidden when use of the antenna is not required.  Unfortunately, I was unable to find a power antenna for the Tacoma that was described as reliable and practical to install.

I found a selection of antenna's that looked appealing from an eBay Seller.  The one I chose cost $14.98 including shipping.  It was shipped promptly to my home and fit the online description perfectly.  The original antenna simply twisted off and the new one screwed right in.

I like the replacement and my initial concerns that it may not work as well as the original antenna were quickly subdued.  I do not know how much less effective the shorter antenna might be in distant rural areas, but it performs as well as the original antenna everywhere I have used it.
