Sky Tower - Auckland

The
Sky
Tower
in
Auckland
stands 1,076 feet (328 meters) and offers a
Sky Jump attraction to drop harnessed individuals
down a wire to the targeted landing point shown above.

of a
Sky
Tower patron making a
Sky Jump and being lowered down the side of the tower (860K).
At right is an
unobstructed view of the
Sky
Tower
looking up from its base. Multiple elevators take patrons up
(and back down) to three restaurants or one of three observation
decks. |

 |
A view
(above) straight down from the tower's primary
observation level shows the glass surrounding the lobby of the
Sky City Hotel.
We were hungry and
looking for a quick lunch solution when we decided to enjoy the view
(left) from the
Sky
Tower.
The building with McDonald's
easily recognizable golden arches painted on it is exactly where we
headed. |
At right is the front and back of a two-person admission ticket to
the
Sky
Tower. Interestingly, their own marketing sometimes shows
Sky
Tower as one word and sometimes two words.

At left is a copy of
the receipt to the
Sky
Tower observation deck. The $32.40NZ for two persons is
about $25 in U.S. dollars or $12.50US each. Below is a view
inside the deck. |

| The
Sky
Tower (right) casts a long shadow across
Auckland
buildings and streets in the photo at right. |
The outer perimeter (photo above left) of
the observation deck features thick glass windows in the floor. Although
the windows offer unusual 1,000 foot views straight down, it causes even the
most daring visitors to feel weak kneed when walking and standing on them.

 |
A maintenance pod climbs up on the outside of the
Sky
Tower and an employee on the observation deck opens a window to
communicate with the two workers in the pod when it arrives.
Click
or on the image below to download a .WMV of a worker climbing in
from the outside pod in to the observation deck (1.5MB). |
|
 |

A view of the underside of the maintenance pod
from ground level is highlighted by the white box in the above photograph.
From ground level and
looking skyward,
Sky
Tower rises far above the roofline of the
Sky City Hotel
seemingly poised to pierce the clouds.
