New Zealand - Sky City Hotel

An APT representative picked us up from Auckland International Airport on the morning of Tuesday, March 1, 2005. We had a pleasant trip in a small van to the Sky City Hotel in downtown Auckland.

I have found it difficult to determine if "Sky City" is marketed by the hotel as one or two words. The photo of the hotel's welcome sign at left makes my point. The logo at the top suggests that "Sky City" is one word, but the welcome message is written to suggest that it is two words.

Inside and out, the hotel has a large number of compelling lines in its architecture. The view at right is looking back at the hotel from a spot next to the Sky Tower structure.

The Sky City Hotel offers a casino, gift shops, restaurants as well as the attraction of the adjacent Sky Tower.

At left is a stairway leading up from the ground floor of the hotel in the lobby.

Returning back to the Sky City Hotel from The Loaded Hog restaurant for dinner, we found the car shown at right parked in front of the hotel. The license plate is O B HAV (Oh, Behave) and a decal along the top of the windshield invites a passerby to visit http://www.austinpowers.co.nz; the online home of Gary Brown, an Austin Powers impersonator.
