Mt. Cook, New Zealand

Mt. Cook is the highest mountain in New Zealand and it is always essential for serious New Zealand tourists to enjoy its breathtaking profile.  First climbed in 1894, Mt. Cook stands 12,316 feet high and attracts hundreds of climbers every year.  Over 210 people have died climbing the mountain since records have been kept of those statistics.

Ski planes offer a memorable opportunity to land on a glacier near Mt. Cook.  After the engines shut down, travelers enjoy a pinnacle experience.

Another popular way to enjoy topography in the Mt. Cook region is to enjoy dramatic views from a helicopter such as the one shown at right.

This mural offers a graphic bird's eye view of a ski plane soaring past dramatic backdrops of snow capped mountains.
