Kia Ora

The Maori Greeting

New Zealand was originally inhabited by Polynesians who are known as Maori and their culture continues to thrive throughout the country.  It would be impossible to tour the beautiful country and not appreciate the contributions and heritage of the Maori people.

The Maori greeting of hello and goodbye used in a similar manner as Hawaiians might use aloha is Kia Ora (pronounced "kee aura").
