On Monday, March 7, 2005 we found ourselves en route from
Christchurch to
Fox Glacier.
After a remarkable ride aboard the
TransAlpine Train, we were reunited with our
APT coach and soon found
ourselves in a West Coast township named
Hokitika.
We spent a bit more than an hour to rest, have lunch and enjoy the
unique stores.
This area of the country is known for its Jade market. Above
is a photograph of a clock tower with one of the
The Jade Factory in the background. Another interesting
store in Hokitika
is The Gold
Room where authentic
Lord of the Rings
rings are supposedly made and sold.
Not to be overlooked is
Hokitika
Glass Studio Ltd. where unique glass items are custom designed
and made in an on-premises studio. |
