The Hermitage Hotel at Mt. Cook

The Hermitage is a great way to enjoy the views and surroundings of Mt. Cook.  Our tour stopped at The Hermitage as we waited for some of group to complete their helicopter or ski plane tours of the area.

The Hermitage features a hotel, gift shop, restaurant and memorable views of some of New Zealand's most memorable landscapes.  This innovative fountain near the lobby celebrates the efforts of the trout to swim back upstream to spawn.

A statue of Sir Edmund Hillary upstages the facade of The Hermitage.

The Hermitage is located in Mt. Cook National Park at an altitude of 760 meters (2493 feet).

Sir Edmund Hillary's statue casts his eyes toward a distant mountain ridge.
