John F. Kennedy Space Center is about 40 miles away from Orlando and Osprey Lakes in Chuluota.

Rockets and shuttles are launched from this location and the event can be witnessed for miles around.

At left is the trail of a rocket above the roofline of our next door neighbor's home.

At approximately 10:39 a.m. loud military jets (below) circled above the homes and a wide surrounding area.

Distracted by the thunder of the jets, the glare of the sun and somewhat annoying cloud cover, it was easy to miss the trail being left behind by Space shuttle Discovery which blasted off on Tuesday.  It is the first shuttle flight since the Columbia disaster in February 2003.
A closer look of the trail as winds high level begin to break it apart.

Within minutes, the trail takes on the shape of a spiral in the winds and before long the circling jets are not seen or heard from again.

At approximately 7:43 a.m. NASA launched the Lockheed Atlas V Rocket.  The rocket, in turn, will launch NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.  The spacecraft will search for ancient waterways, study the Martian atmosphere and potentially scout locations for a future human landing.  At right, the vapor trail from that rocket is seen over Osprey Lakes homes.
