Sitting Room Window Treatment

We knew that we wanted curtains in this room and we invested a great deal of time to shop for a fabric that we felt worked well for this room.

We finally found the fabric above at Calico Corners in Altamonte Springs [(407) 767-0789].  As luck would have it, not only was the fabric at a discounted price, but Calico Corners was willing to custom build the two cornices that we wanted with our design and dimensions.  Calico Corners also recommended a seamstress to make drapes with pleats from our fabric and backing at a fair and reasonable price.

A number of weeks later we were notified by the seamstress and Calico Corners that the draperies and cornices were ready.  We picked them up and installed them.

We were very pleased with the end result.  Given an opportunity to do it again, we may have given taller dimensions for the cornices, however the narrow look accomplished our goal to help maximize the look of the custom doors to the lanai and expand the overall look of the room.  As we examined the Bali vertical blinds, we decided to reinstall the header underneath the cornice.

We sewed a strip of fabric together long enough to wrap the original fabric in the header because it was stiff and already cut to fit the header correctly.  We used fusible tape to attach the fabrics together on the back side.

Once the Bali vertical blind header was installed, the tops of the vertical blinds were hidden again beneath the cornice when examining the apparatus closely.

The medallions we used for the rope and tassel tie-backs were clearance priced at only $9 a pair at either Bed, Bath and Beyond or Linens and Things.  They were painted in a very unattractive way, however, we painted them a gold with copper highlights.  The result was an expensive looking medallion that looked as good to us as ones we found at a fabric store for $65 each.

The rope and tassel tie-backs we found at Ross Stores for about $4.50 each.  We found that they looked as good or better than ones we found for up to 4 times more at other stores.
