Window Treatments

It has been an odyssey selecting window treatments for each room of our Osprey Lakes home.  Our inspirations for styles and fabrics have come from so many different places.  For instance, the dining room window has a large arch.  The only truly compelling arch window treatment design we found was at an Expo store in South Orlando, but their price was in the thousands of dollars and we could not find the fabric we liked there.  Using that image, however, we found a local professional who helped us identify the perfect fabric pattern and he saved us a great deal of money.

For our sitting area, that same local professional was unable to help us find the fabric that we loved that room.  We also felt that his estimate was pricey for what we had in mind.  Ultimately, we found the perfect fabric pattern for less that $7 a yard at a local fabric store and they created a pair of custom cornices from our dimensions for us at substantial savings.

In a guest room, we built our own cornice using fabric we found at yet another fabric store chain.  The design for the cornice pattern was actually inspired by a soft cornice that we found at another national chain.

In our kitchenette, Lynn found instructions for sewing an awning.  She modified the dimensions for our needs and created three stitch-perfect beautiful awnings for the three bay windows we have in that part of our home.

Some may say that what we experienced is just not worth the time and effort regardless of the overall savings.  But what we found is that the projects brought us closer together and we are proud that we had so much of ourselves in the final look.  We have not only increased the value of our home, but we also enjoy a custom look that cannot be purchased off the shelf of any store.
