Lynn and I have been very please with the quality and features of
our DR Horton home. Just the same, there are inevitably
potential improvements that new homeowners find after moving in.
The master bath in this home has separate his and her sink areas.
Both were equipped by the builder with a medicine cabinet and one
electrical outlet. |

Above is an image of the smaller sink area in the master bath.
To the right is the larger one. Guess which one Lynn wanted to
use. Both
of us settled in and discovered that one outlet was not quite enough
for either of us. Lynn didn't want to have to unplug a
nightlight when using a hair dryer and I need extra outlets for my
shaver and mustache trimmer. |

In addition, the master bath area was lacking towel space; especially
somewhere to hang and hand towel.

|
To
solve the first problem, I set out to add two new outlets. The
builder had placed one outlet underneath each medicine cabinet on
the side closest to the back mirror. My goal was to position
the new outlets in a similar position beneath the closer corner of
the medicine cabinet. When completed, both medicine cabinets
would have outlets placed in matching positions beneath them (see
photos above).

To the right is a stud stage photograph of the wall that I placed a
new outlet for Lynn's sink. The boxed frame on the right is
where the medicine cabinet will be placed. Beneath it at the
right is the electrical outlet that the builder provided. The
wiring at the left of the photo is for light switches.
The outlet I added would be placed beneath the medicine cabinet on
the left side.

Here is a close view of the two outlets after the new one was
installed. I decided not to place them side by side. The
outlets farthest away could be used for items we leave plugged in
all the time. The closest outlets are for hair dryers or other
devices we might not leave plugged in. |

|
After installing the new electrical outlets, I installed towel
rings. The towel rings are perfect for hand towels without
having the counter as the only place to keep them handy.
I also
added a towel ring in the Pool Bath. |
