Screened Lanai

December 16, 2003

We discussed a pool on a number of occasions, but we always wonder how often we would actually use one.  Then questions regarding maintenance, upkeep costs and how much it really adds to the value of the home clouds the decision process.  Regardless, we decided it would take some time to add a pool if we ever did and we should screen in the lanai right away if we had hopes of truly enjoying that outdoor space.

CJS Aluminum Inc. came recommended to us by the builder.  They are an Orlando based company that we solicited a quote from for the gutters as well as the screen for our lanai.

We were given a number of choices, such as the color of the hardware, the placement of a door, the aperture of the screen mesh and options regarding a kick plate.  We decided black hardware would look better rather than an assortment of white beams in a space that looks dark overall anyway.

We originally asked for the door to be as near to the family room slider as possible, but later we changed that decision feeling that the hardware for a door would distract from the view of the lake.

CJS Aluminum Inc. recommended a wider mesh than we selected.  The image above was taken before they installed the screen mesh into the right opening.

A tighter mesh would be a bit darker to look out of, but it would also do a much better job keeping the smallest insects from getting inside.  We had a kick plate installed to make it easier to trim the grass and walk around without harming the screen mesh.
